How do I get access to the dashboard?

QuantmHQ is subscriber-only. Create an account ("Get started"), confirm your email address from the link we send you, then sign in and choose a plan on the Pricing page - every plan starts with a 7-day free trial. From then on, sign in with your email and password from the "Login" link.

What do I need to do before I can place a trade?

Accepted Answer

First, turn on two-factor authentication (Account, then Security): it is required before any broker can be connected. Then two things, both on the Settings page: connect at least one brokerage account, and open that account's "Trading settings & risk limits" panel to set at least one risk limit (a max risk per trade, a max loss per day, or a max open positions cap). An account with none of those set has every order rejected outright - the Trade page shows a banner explaining this and the Submit button stays disabled until at least one is set.

Which brokers can I connect?

Accepted Answer

Charles Schwab, Alpaca, Tradier, tastytrade, and Webull. Every one of them gets the same enforced risk limits and the same bracket order entry, with fills recorded in your journal - see the Brokers page for what's specific to each. Webull differs in a few ways: its orders refresh as you trade rather than streaming, a fill is recorded once its order completes, and it doesn't take a Stop-Limit entry.

Question 4

Analyst, Trader or Pro - what's the difference?

Trader covers everything you need to place risk-managed trades fast: one connected broker, the live chart with your orders drawn on it, watchlists beside it, and a trading journal with the last 90 days of history. Trader also includes Performance Analytics (expectancy, drawdown, the equity curve, the calendar heat map, and every breakdown), Replay and Backtesting (10 symbols a run, six months of minute bars) on market data we provide. Pro adds every broker at once, full journal history with no cutoff, and a deeper Backtesting reach (25 symbols a run, a year of minute bars). Analyst is for reviewing and practicing rather than trading through the app: the journal (imported by CSV) with the last 30 days of history, Performance Analytics, Replay and Backtesting (5 symbols a run, 60 days of minute bars), with no broker connection and no order entry. Does QuantmHQ ever see my brokerage password?

No. Connecting a broker is a one-click login through that broker's own sign-in page (OAuth) - QuantmHQ never sees or stores your broker password, and the broker's own servers decide what access to grant.

Is Trade For Me a broker?

Accepted Answer

No. Trade For Me is not a broker. It connects to accounts you already hold at supported brokerages and never takes custody of your funds.

How does enforced risk management actually work?

Accepted Answer

You set your limits once, per account, on the Settings page: a max risk per trade, a max loss per day, and a max open positions cap. Every order you submit is checked against whichever of those you've set before it is ever sent to your broker. A rejected order never reaches your account - there's no window where staying disciplined depends on remembering the rule yourself in the moment. A max loss per day is checked against the actual net result the limit is meant to protect: today's realized loss on trades placed through this app, plus what every still-open stop-loss could still give back if it were hit right now. A max open positions cap and a max risk per trade are checked the same way, from your real current positions and orders, not just what the app has on record - see "Why is Submit disabled and it says I have no risk limits set?" below for what happens with nothing configured at all.

Why is Submit disabled, and it says I have no risk limits set?

An account with none of Max Risk Per Trade, Max Loss Per Day, or Max Open Positions set gets every order refused - that's deliberate: this app's whole purpose is enforced, risk-based sizing, and leaving every limit blank would let that be silently skipped entirely. Set at least one of the three under "Trading settings & risk limits" on the Settings page and the form unlocks.

What is the Risk Preview card?

It sits beside the order form on the Trade page and updates live as you type: the dollar risk if you're stopped out, the reward if you hit your target, and the resulting reward-to-risk ratio. For every limit your account has set, it shows the figure before and after this trade - so you see exactly how much of today's budget it would use, and whether it would put you over a limit, before you ever click Submit. It doesn't disable Submit by itself and it costs no extra request or broker call - it's a preview computed from figures already on screen. The server runs the same checks again when you actually submit, and that's the real gatekeeper.

What is the "Today's Risk" card showing?

It only appears once the account has a Max Loss Per Day or Max Open Positions limit set. "Daily risk used" is today's realized P&L on trades placed through this app plus what's still at stake on open positions, shown against your daily limit; "Open positions" is today's open position count against your cap. Its note is deliberate: this figure only reflects trades placed through this app, not other activity in the same brokerage account.

What counts toward my daily loss limit - my whole account, or just this app's trades?

Just trades placed through QuantmHQ. If your brokerage account also holds other, longer-term positions unrelated to your day trading, their ordinary price swings don't eat into (or inflate) the budget this limit is protecting.

What is a bracket order?

Accepted Answer

One trade with three parts: the entry, a target to take profit, and a stop-loss to cap the loss - so a position is never open without a plan for how it exits. Every order QuantmHQ places is a bracket, but how the target and stop actually reach the broker depends on what that broker supports. Alpaca, Tradier, tastytrade, and Webull each have their own native order type for this (Alpaca's bracket order, the OTOCO - "one triggers, one-cancels-other" - of Tradier and tastytrade, and Webull's take-profit / stop-loss combination), so the entry, target, and stop all go out together as a single request from the start. Schwab doesn't publish how it would handle a nested bracket's target and stop if the entry only fills part of its quantity, so for Schwab specifically the entry goes out alone, and a separate, correctly-sized one-cancels-other exit order is placed for each portion of the entry as it actually fills - a 100-share entry that fills in two chunks of 40 and 60 gets two separate exit orders, one per chunk, each covering exactly the shares confirmed filled so far. Either way, the result is the same: every filled share ends up protected by a resting target and stop.

Question 13

What order types and time-in-force options are there?

Accepted Answer

Market, Limit, and Stop-Limit for the entry (Webull takes Market and Limit only - a Stop-Limit entry there is refused with a message). Time in Force is Day or GTC (good 'til canceled) on every broker; Fill or Kill, Immediate or Cancel, and All or None are Schwab-only and greyed out for other brokers. Each account has its own default order type and time in force, set on the Settings page - changing it on the Trade page for one order doesn't change that default.

Can I trade pre-market or after hours?

Accepted Answer

No - orders are for the regular session only, and that is a choice, not an oversight. Every order here is a bracket: an entry with a stop-loss that caps the loss and a target that takes the profit, and the risk limits you set are measured from that stop. Brokers allow extended-hours trading only for plain limit orders, and a stop doesn't work there (Schwab doesn't accept stop orders in extended hours and Alpaca rejects them). So an extended-hours trade would be an entry with no stop-loss resting at the broker. That would defeat the purpose of enforced risk management. Max risk per trade, daily loss limit and position sizing all assume every share has a stop behind it; take the stop away and those figures no longer describe what you could actually lose. Extended hours is also thinly traded - wide spreads, little volume, and sharp gaps when the market opens - which is when a stop matters most. We would rather not offer an order that quietly bypasses the rules the app exists to enforce. We never ask a broker to fill an order in an extended session; an order sent outside regular hours is handled by the broker's normal rules (typically it waits for the next regular session). You can still use the chart, Replay and the journal at any time, and the chart shows pre-market and after-hours candles (Extended Hours toggle) so you can plan the next session's trades.

Question 15

How does the quantity and target price get filled in automatically?

Target Price defaults to your account's Target Risk Multiple times the price-to-stop-loss distance (2x by default, i.e. your target is twice as far away as your stop). Quantity is sized so that quantity times the per-share risk never exceeds your account's Max Risk Per Trade. Both stay editable afterward - these are just sensible defaults, not a lock.

What does "Get Quote" do?

Accepted Answer

Fetches a live quote for the symbol and fills the Price field with your account's Default Quote Value (Bid, Ask, Mark, or Last - set on the Settings page, limited to whatever your broker actually provides). If that figure isn't available right now (no bid outside market hours, say), it falls back to another the broker provides and tells you which one it used.

Can I place an order straight from the chart?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Double-click the chart to set your entry - for a Market order this is the same as Get Quote, for a Limit order the clicked price becomes your limit, and for a Stop-Limit order it becomes the trigger (with the limit offset from it by your account's Stop-Limit Price Offset). Then drag and release to set your Stop-Loss; Target and Quantity auto-size from it the same as if you'd typed it into the form. Not quite right? You can drag the label of any of those lines to adjust it - see the next question. Check "Auto-submit" first and releasing that drag clicks Submit for you, saving that click - you still get the "Confirm order" popup, and nothing is sent to your broker until you confirm it there. Left unchecked (the default), the form is just filled in and Submit is still yours to click.

How do I adjust the price, target or stop-loss after I've set it from the chart?

Accepted Answer

Drag its label. As soon as a price is in the Place Order form, the chart draws it as a dashed line with a label at the chart's left edge (PRICE or LIMIT, TRIGGER, TARGET, STOP-LOSS). Press on that label, drag up or down, and release - the line follows your mouse, snapped to the cent, and the matching field in the form changes with it as you go. The cursor turns into an up-and-down arrow when you're over a label that can be dragged. Only the label picks a line up, never the line itself, so clicking and dragging anywhere else on the chart still pans it exactly as before. While you hold a label the chart's scale stays put, so the line tracks your mouse rather than running away from it; once you let go the scale re-fits to the lines where they ended up. Dragging past the top or bottom of the chart pins the line at that edge. What else changes depends on which line you drag: STOP-LOSS - Stop-Loss - Target and Quantity are re-sized from the new stop, exactly as if you'd typed it TARGET - Target only - Nothing else - Quantity stays as it was PRICE (Limit order) or LIMIT (Stop-Limit order) - Price - Target and Quantity are re-sized from the new price TRIGGER (Stop-Limit order only) - Stop Price (the trigger) - The Limit moves with it, keeping the gap between them; Target and Quantity are re-sized PRICE (Market order) - Not draggable - a Market order's Price is a quote, not a level you place - -

Why did my Target move when I dragged the Price or the Stop-Loss?

Because Target defaults to your account's Target Risk Multiple times the distance between price and stop-loss, and Quantity is sized from that same distance and your Max Risk Per Trade. Changing either end of that distance - by dragging, or by typing in the form - re-derives both, so the trade keeps its risk-to-reward shape and never silently exceeds your risk limit. Dragging the Target itself is the exception: it only moves Target. If you want a specific target, set the price and stop-loss first and drag the Target last.

Does dragging a line ever submit an order?

Accepted Answer

No. Dragging a label only edits the form's own fields; nothing is sent to your broker until you click Submit and then confirm the "Confirm order" popup. Even with Auto-submit checked, Auto-submit only clicks Submit for you after the double-click-then-drag that sets your Stop-Loss and finishes filling in a new order (the popup still follows) - it never fires after later adjustments. So you can nudge a line as many times as you like, and watch the Risk Preview card update alongside, before committing to anything.

Can I drag the lines of an order that's already been placed?

Accepted Answer

Not yet. The lines for an order that's already working at your broker (shown with the Open orders toggle on) are display only - dragging one would mean replacing a live order at the broker, which the chart doesn't do. To change a working order, cancel it with the Cancel button (or close the position with Flatten Position) and place a new one; the chart's draft lines make setting up the replacement quick.

Why do both "Cancel" and "Flatten Position" show on the same order?

Accepted Answer

This happens on an order that's partially filled and still working - say 12 of 19 shares filled, 7 still open. The two buttons do genuinely different things and either one, or both, can be exactly what you want: Cancel cancels the entry order, meaning the remaining 7 unfilled shares are pulled and nothing more gets bought - it doesn't touch the 12 shares you already hold. Flatten Position closes what you already hold - the 12 filled shares - with an immediate market order, regardless of what happens to the rest of the entry. Flatten Position only ever appears once at least some shares have actually filled (or the order is fully filled); it disappears once that position is closed. Cancel only ever appears while the entry could still add to your position (before it's fully filled, or after it's been fully filled the OCO order protecting it is still resting) - once nothing further can happen at the broker, neither button shows.

Question 23

What's the difference between Cancel and Flatten Position, in one line?

Accepted Answer

Cancel stops shares you don't have yet from being bought or sold. Flatten Position immediately sells (or buys back, if short) shares you already have, right now, at the market.

What happens if my order only partially fills?

Accepted Answer

The shares that filled are yours, protected by their target and stop the same as a fully filled order; the unfilled remainder stays working (or can be canceled - see above) independently. The Recent Orders table shows exactly how much has filled and at what average price, e.g. "12/19 filled @ 346.66".

Can I cancel just the target or just the stop-loss, and leave the position open?

Accepted Answer

No, not standalone - once your entry has filled, canceling its resting exit orders would leave the position open with nothing protecting it, so that's never offered. The only way to remove a filled bracket's exit orders is to flatten the position outright, which cancels them and closes the position together.

What does the Trade page's chart show?

A real-time candlestick chart for any symbol you type in (its own field, separate from the order form's), refreshing on its own while it's open. Three toggles layer information on top: "Open orders" draws this symbol's still-open bracket orders as entry/target/stop lines labeled with their R and dollar value; "Today's trades" marks today's completed entries and exits with a line between them, green for a win and red for a loss; "R levels" adds faint dotted lines at 1R-3R past each open order's entry, for a sense of scale beyond the target. It's display only - nothing on the chart itself places or changes an order.

How current are the candles - do I need to refresh manually?

They auto-refresh while the chart is open, including the still-forming current bar. The "Refresh candles" button forces an immediate fetch regardless, useful right after you expect new data (e.g. right after a fill).

Can I see more history than what first loads?

Accepted Answer

Yes - scroll left and it loads further history automatically, pre-market and after-hours included. There are nine timeframes to choose from; the intraday ones are all built from the same underlying 1-minute data. The first time anyone looks far back at a symbol's intraday history, loading can take a few seconds; after that it is already stored (stored intraday days are kept for about a year, and older ones are fetched again whenever you ask for them).

How do watchlists work?

A collapsible panel to the left of the Trade page's chart. Create a list with "+ New list", add symbols by typing them (or pasting several at once, separated by commas or spaces), and click any symbol to load its chart straight away. A "+ SPY"-style button (showing the chart's symbol) adds whatever the chart is currently showing to the open list. The chart's own Trade button then copies that symbol to the order form and gets a quote, so going from a watchlist to a ready-to-submit order takes two clicks. Rename or delete a list with the icons under its name, and remove a symbol with its x. Use the arrow at the top of the panel to collapse it when you want the chart's full width; it remembers whether you left it open or closed. It's also available in the chart's full-screen mode.

Are my watchlists tied to a broker account, and is there a limit?

Accepted Answer

No - watchlists belong to you, not to a connected account, so the same lists are there whichever account you've selected and on any device you sign in on. You can keep up to 20 lists with up to 200 symbols each, and list names must be unique. Watchlists show symbols only for now (no live prices in the list itself) - the chart is where you see the price.

Is there a full-screen mode?

Yes, the expand icon in the chart's controls - Esc or the same button exits it. Where a browser doesn't support the fullscreen API, the chart panel covers the page instead and the same controls put it back.

What is the chart grid?

A page of live charts - each with its own symbol and timeframe - that fits your window without scrolling, meant to be opened in its own tab or on a second monitor. Open it from "Grid" in the menu, or from the "Grid" button above the Trade page's chart. It is available on every plan, and it is read-only: nothing on it places or changes an order.

How many charts can I put on a grid?

6 on Analyst, 12 on Trader and 24 on Pro. Adding more than your plan allows is refused with a message saying so. Charts of the same symbol on different timeframes each count as a chart.

How do I add charts and arrange them?

Accepted Answer

Type one or several symbols (separated by spaces or commas) and press Add, or, on Trader and Pro, choose "+ Watchlist..." to add every symbol in one of your watchlists (watchlists are made on the Trade page). "New:" sets the timeframe new charts start on. Each chart has its own timeframe, an Ext button for pre-market and after-hours bars, and an x to remove it. Drag a chart by its header onto another to move it to that place, and "Columns" sets one to six columns (auto picks the best fit for your window and the number of charts).

Can each chart have its own indicators?

Yes. The "Ind" button on a chart opens its indicator panel - add, change or remove indicators for that chart alone. A new chart starts with a copy of the indicators on your Trade chart; once you change one in the grid, that chart keeps its own set and your Trade chart is not affected.

Can I save a grid?

Yes - "Save as..." stores the symbols, timeframes, session settings, order and indicators under a name (up to ten grids), available on any device you sign in on. Even unsaved, the grid you were working on is remembered in this browser, so a new tab opens where you left off.

How do the charts stay live?

Accepted Answer

All the grid's charts share one live connection for their forming candles, so more charts don't mean more connections, and the rest of each chart refreshes at a gentle pace rather than every couple of seconds. The badge at the top shows whether it is live: "Market closed" outside extended hours (04:00-20:00 Eastern, weekdays), or a note if live updates are unavailable, in which case the charts still refresh by checking periodically. A chart in a browser tab you can't see pauses and catches up when you come back to it.

What happens when I click a symbol's name?

It opens that symbol on the Trade page chart in another tab, so the grid stays where it is (a plan with no Trade page - Analyst - opens it in Replay instead). Clicking another symbol reuses the same tab.

Will a grid left on a screen sign me out?

Accepted Answer

Not while it is on screen and live: it counts as activity for up to eight hours after you last touched it, then the normal sign-out after 15 minutes without activity applies again. A hidden tab, or a grid while the market is closed, does not keep the session alive.

Is there a full-screen mode?

Yes - "Full screen" in the grid's toolbar shows the whole grid, toolbar included, filling the screen; Esc or the same button leaves it.

Do I have to enter my trades into the journal myself?

No - every trade placed through this app is recorded automatically as it closes: entry, every fill that exited it, realized P&L, and R-multiple, with no copying numbers into a spreadsheet.

What counts as "one trade" in the journal?

Accepted Answer

One bracket - its entry plus every fill that exited it, however many separate exits that took (a position stopped out in three partial fills is still one trade, not three). A trade only counts toward your win rate, average R, and profit factor once it's fully closed; a partly closed one is shown with an OPEN badge and its realized-so-far P&L, but doesn't yet count as a win or a loss.

What are Setups and Mistakes, and how do I tag a trade with them?

A Setup is the one pattern or strategy a trade was (a breakout, a pullback, whatever names you use) - pick one on the order form when you place the trade, or add it later from the journal. Mistakes are a list of things that went wrong, if any - toggled on from the journal's trade editor, and a trade can carry more than one. Both are names you define yourself (type a new one and it's remembered for next time); manage the full list - see how many trades use each one, and delete ones you no longer want - from the "Trade Tags" panel on the Settings page. Deleting a name also removes it from every trade that carries it.

Can I add a note to a trade?

Yes - a free-text note (up to 2000 characters), either on the order form when you place the trade or added/edited later from the journal's "Notes" toggle on that trade's row.

Why doesn't an imported trade show an R-multiple?

Accepted Answer

R-multiple is measured against a stop-loss price, and a trade imported from your broker's raw execution history has no way to know what stop (if any) was actually working for it - the app only sees the fills, not the order that never filled. Open that trade's Notes in the journal and enter its Stop Price by hand (shown only for imported trades) to have its R-multiple calculated from then on.

What's the difference between importing a CSV, "Import from Broker", and a manual trade?

Import CSV loads trades from a spreadsheet - useful for history from before you connected, or from a broker this app doesn't support; a template with the required columns is one click away. "Import from Broker" (only when a connected account is selected) pulls your broker's own execution history directly, from a date you choose - handy for trades placed at the broker outside this app, or from before you connected here. "Manual" is a separate bucket, not tied to any brokerage account at all, filled the same way (CSV import) - for trades you want journaled that have nothing to do with a connected account.

What does the Journal's account/manual/combined view switch do?

It picks which trades the page shows: the selected connected account's own trades, the account-less manual bucket, or both merged into one list with one combined set of summary stats. Importing and clearing imported trades need one specific bucket to target, so those controls are hidden while viewing Combined.

Yes - "Export CSV" on the Performance Summary card, for the account or manual view and whatever date range is currently selected (there's no single export for the Combined view, since it isn't one bucket).

The last 30 days on the Analyst plan, the last 90 days on Trader; full history with no cutoff on Pro. The date range picker defaults to the last 7 days either way - widen it, or use "All Time", to see further back.

Can I share trades with social media platforms?

Accepted Answer

Yes - every closed trade in the journal has a Share button. It builds a branded trade card (symbol, side, R-multiple, and percent return) plus matching post text, with one-click buttons for X, Reddit, and Stocktwits. Discord doesn't offer a way for any website to link directly into a post, so its button copies the text and image to your clipboard instead, ready to paste into a channel.

Does sharing a trade reveal my account size or exact P&L?

Not unless you choose to show it. By default, the card and post text show only your R-multiple and percent return - never your dollar P&L, share count, broker, or account number. A checkbox in the Share panel lets you add the dollar amount and share count if you want to; that's the only thing it changes.

Does QuantmHQ post to my social media accounts automatically?

No. Nothing is posted, uploaded, or connected on your behalf. Clicking a platform button either opens that platform's own compose window with the text pre-filled, or (for Stocktwits and Discord, which don't support that) copies the text and image to your clipboard - either way, you still choose whether to actually hit post on the platform's own site. QuantmHQ never asks for or stores any social media login.

What's in Performance Analytics, and is it available on every plan?

It's on every plan. Beyond the headline numbers: expectancy (average result per completed trade), max drawdown, best/worst day, longest win/loss streaks, an equity curve, and a calendar heat map of every day you've traded, plus breakdowns by entry hour, weekday, symbol, side, setup, and mistake - all computed live from your own journal, so it always matches the trade list beneath it.

How do I change the date range?

From/To date pickers on the Performance Summary card, shared by the Dashboard and Journal pages. "Last 7 Days" resets to the default; "All Time" loads everything (shown as an upsell link on the Analyst and Trader plans, where journal history is limited to the last 30 and 90 days anyway).

What is Replay?

A feature of every plan that plays back real past price action for any symbol, so you can practice reading price with no money on the line and no hindsight. Pick a start date and a timeframe: the chart shows the history leading up to that date, and Play or Step then reveals candles forward from it, carrying on across the following trading days until today rather than stopping at the end of one day. From the 30-minute timeframe up, one Step reveals one whole chart candle (a daily chart steps a day at a time), so you can replay a swing or daily-chart strategy, not only intraday trades. You can change timeframe mid-replay and it keeps your place in time. Mark a hypothetical entry and stop the same way you would on the live chart - double-click to set the entry, drag to set the stop - and the app tracks the outcome bar by bar, resolving it only at the exact point price would have actually hit it. A resting Limit or Stop-Limit order stays live across days until it fills or the replay runs out of data.

Does a Replay trade place a real order?

No - it's display and practice only. Nothing on the Replay page ever reaches your broker.

How does a practice trade get sized and resolved?

Accepted Answer

Target and Quantity auto-size from your account's real trading settings, same as the live order form, and the Risk Preview shows against your real max risk per trade. Once marked, the trade is locked in as PENDING/OPEN and resolves as you step or play forward: a Market fill happens instantly at the marked price, a Limit waits for price to actually reach it, and a Stop-Limit waits for its trigger first. How far back can I replay?

Daily bars go back decades on every plan. Intraday bars (1-minute, including pre-market and after-hours, and the 5-minute bars built from them) reach back 60 days on Analyst, six months on Trader and one year on Pro, for any US stock the market data covers. It is a rolling window that moves forward with each day, not a fixed date. The Replay page's date field stops at the earliest day your plan reaches for the resolution you picked. Intraday timeframes, 5-minute included, are built from the 1-minute bars; a daily replay plays daily bars, so it reaches back much further than an intraday one.

Where does Replay's price data come from?

From market data we license and provide ourselves, the same for everyone - it does not come from your broker, so it works on every plan, with or without a connected broker. Because it is not your broker's feed, volume and prices can differ slightly from what your broker shows (a different mix of exchanges, for example).

Why is the first replay of a symbol slower?

Days nobody has looked at yet are loaded when first asked for and then kept, for every user, so the first intraday chart or replay of a symbol far back can take a few seconds. After that the same days load instantly. Stored days are kept for about a year, and older ones are fetched again if you ask for them.

What is Backtesting?

A feature of every plan, on the Replay page (switch from Replay to Backtest at the top). You describe a strategy once - when a trade is taken, how it is entered, where the stop and target go - and the app runs it over a stretch of real past price history and reports how it would have done: win rate, expectancy, profit factor, drawdown, an equity curve, and every individual trade. Nothing is ever sent to your broker; it is a test on past data only.
